Regardless whether you are 16, 60 or more, at Pronto Driving School we can develop a successful driving program for you. We cater to high school students, Uni students, businesses, mature aged drivers and International citizens and students. For more details on the services we can provide, please read on.

Learner Driver Training

At Pronto Driving School we understand that learning to drive is a unique and personal experience. Every student will have varying skill levels, confidence and prior experience, which is why at Pronto we tailor our driver training programs to suit accordingly.
Together with professional, structured driving lessons, learning to drive with family and friends is also to be encouraged. It allows the new driver to practice the skills learned with their qualified Pronto driving instructor, while also helping them meet the required 75 hour on road driving requirement. At Pronto we welcome and encourage parental involvement during the learning process.

Learner drivers can choose to get their licence through the Vehicle On Road Test (VORT) method, or the Competency Based Training and Assessment method (CBT&A).

What is VORT?
The VORT test involves a general drive of approximately 45 minutes during which you will be required to demonstrate 5 low speed manoeuvres.

  1. Pulling into and moving off from the curb
  2. 90 Degree Angle Parking
  3. A U-turn
  4. A 3-point turn; and
  5. Reverse Parallel Parking

During the general drive component you will also be tested on your driving skills e.g. changing lanes, turning on and off busy roads, turning at traffic lights, negotiating roundabouts, stop and give-way signs, your interaction with other road users and the appropriate use of the system of car control.

To pass the VORT test you must score 90% or more out of 100. Points  can be lost if you fail manoeuvres, for poor driving behavior and for minor  breaches of roadlaw. Serious roadlaw breaches, and anything deemed "dangerous driving" will result in an instant fail.

What is CBT&A?
Competency Based Training and Assessment (logbook) involves the continual grading of a learner based on the 30 tasks found towards the back of 'The Driving Companion" book.

It usually takes longer to complete your training under this method but you do get to do the whole thing with the same instructor, including the final driving assessment. The driving assessment is at the end of the course and must be passed to get your probationary licence.

So you can see it is not really a straightforward choice and each method has its merits. If you are having difficulty deciding which is the most appropriate for you, feel free to contact Pronto for a no obligation chat about the pros and cons of each method. Then you can make an informed choice that best suits your needs.

Some learner drivers might be keen to take their driving lessons in a manual vehicle. We suggest that with such a steep learning curve for the new driver your first lessons are completed in an automatic car to better focus on your driving development, without having to worry about the extra complications of gear changing and clutch use. At Pronto we use an automatic vehicle but once you have mastered the basics we would be happy to complete your training in your own manual vehicle where available.

Lessons are structured and learning outcomes reviewed. Areas requiring additional improvement will be highlighted and guidance provided so you can focus on those areas between lessons.

Pick up and drop off from school, work or home is also no problem.

What to bring on your first lesson.
  • Your Learners permit.
  • Your Driving Companion book, so we can fill in your driving hours log.
  • Appropriate, fully enclosed shoes.
  • Lesson fee can be paid either in cash or by direct bank deposit.

Overseas / International Licence Conversion

If you are new to Australia and wish to convert from an overseas licence to a South Australian drivers licence you will first need to pass a licence theory test at a Service SA branch. If successful you will then be issued with a “Theory Test Certificate of Attainment” letter (also called a ‘Section 80). This will allow you to drive in Australia for a set period of time while you train for your full South Australian licence.
We recommend you seek professional driver training through Pronto Driving School to ensure you learn all the required skills to pass your VORT test. Your Pronto instructor has had long term experience with international visitors to this country and is the perfect choice for your training needs.
Call us now to make a booking or if you need more information to get you started.

Refresher Courses

Refresher courses – Personal or for business
We, a family member, or a business may have come to realise that there are aspects of our driving that are not as good as they used to be. This could be age related or just that a few bad habits have crept into our driving that really should be addressed.
To cater for this Pronto offer a structured driver assessment course to determine what areas, if any, could do with improvement. From this we can then develop a targeted course of driver training with you to address any issues accordingly.
Alternatively you may have identified one area in particular, such as reverse parallel parking for example, where you believe you would benefit from professional training and we can focus on that area alone. It’s really your call but in any case it would be our pleasure to assist you in becoming a better, more confident driver.
